Exhibition Opening: Thursday 15th October, 6pm to 9pm, The Foundry, Vauxhall
Taking Liberties is a new exhibition exploring the ways in which immigration detention
and reporting deprive people of their freedom, rights and autonomy.
Led and curated by people with lived experience of the immigration system, the
exhibition challenges the narratives and policies that dehumanise, isolate and
criminalise people because of their immigration status.
Centring the leadership, creativity and experiences of people directly affected, it
explores the human impact of the immigration detention and reporting as well as the
many ways people resist and create change.
More than a space for learning, the exhibition creates opportunities to grow networks
and amplify resistance.
The exhibition is open to visit Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm at the Foundry,
Vauxhall. We are also running bespoke events where you can hear from the curators,
take part in creative activities and learn about how you can get involved.

About the Exhibition
Led and curated by people with lived experience of the immigration system, the
exhibition challenges the narratives and policies that dehumanise, isolate and
criminalise people because of their immigration status.
This exhibition has evolved in response to the widespread dehumanisation of migrants
culminating in far-right riots across the UK last year. In the face of violence, people
across the UK stood with asylum seekers and migrants.
Our exhibition will reflect on the violence, racism and dehumanisation experienced by
people in detention over the years whilst also celebrating and building collective
resistance.

About the Host
The exhibition is led by a steering group of people with experience of detention and
reporting and is facilitated by Bail for Immigration Detainees and Migrants Organise, in partnership with arts, education and social justice charity, Equalities Work.
