The Foundry's Sustainability Credentials

The Foundry has been awarded a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating, because of the environmental credentials of its design.

BREEAM is the world leading science-based certification system for sustainable built environments.

The Foundry also has an EPC rating of A.

The building benefits from the following factors in its design:

-The ground, first and second floors are fully glazed.

-The 'M' shaped pitched roof above the third floor is clad in zinc, with glazed windows at each end.

-The fenestration comprises PVC double glazed casement windows.

-The original factory wall is utilised within the main atrium, connecting the new predominantly glazed building and the existing building.

-The entire building can be naturally ventilated via openable windows.

-The carpet tiles and the chimneys in the old factory have been reused for the new ventilation system.

-On the upper floors, the larger panels have a north-south orientation which helps to reduce unwanted solar gain.

-The exposed concrete soffits provide good thermal mass.

Energy Performance Certificate

Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) are required whenever a building is constructed, rented or sold.

Their purpose is to record how energy efficient a property is as a building. The certificate provides a rating of the energy efficiency and carbon emissions of a building from A to G, where A is very efficient and G is very inefficient.

An EPC is valid for 10 years.
