10th April 2017 - The Foundry becomes a Bike Hub!
We are delighted to announce that The Foundry is now a designated Bike Hub for the charity The Bike Project. The Bike Project takes second hand bikes, fixes them up and donates them to refugees in order to help them to get around. They even teach refugees the basics in bike mechanics, so they are able to fix a bike up for themselves. For refugee women who are new to cycling, they also run cycling lessons! The Project relies on donated bikes from across London, so we are delighted to support them and receive any bikes on their behalf in the Vauxhall area.

22nd March 2017 - World Water Day
Wednesday 22nd March is World Water Day so we are joining WaterSafe & Waterwise in their Water Saving Week campaign and would like to encourage all our Tenants and building users to join us and take action!
- There will be posters around The Foundry with tips on how to save water and challenges such as the “4 minute shower”
- We have also created a very colourful display with infographics about the water cycle and waste water which is displayed in our atrium

24th February 2017 - Susan Ralphs’ 3 Tips for being Ethical in the Property Industry
Ethical Property is changing the way we all profit from property. Managing Director of The Ethical Property Company shares her advice on what it means to be Ethical in the industry today:
1. Be transparent and honest – Taking the time to answer Tenants’ questions, explaining how we operate and understanding any problems is essential. Tenants appreciate our ability to be open and flexible with them, and the time we take to understand their needs.
2. Recruit people who have excellent technical skills but also who understand our values – This may take longer but we ensure we recruit people who understand what we are trying to achieve and have a real enthusiasm to work for us.
3. Be brave – it may be a cliché, but do what is right not what is easy. We developed our largest building to date, The Foundry, in the middle of the recession, with very uncertain funding. But our Tenants needed the building more than ever at that time – we filled it quickly, and it’s now our most successful project!

20th September - London Open Doors
We would like to thank all those who came to visit The Foundry and volunteered as guides this weekend as part of London Open House 2016. Throughout the day over 250 members of the public came to see the Centre and heard from the architects who designed the building. 27th July - Festival of the World
Tenants at The Foundry last week held an event in the Conference Hall space of the Centre in attempt to bring a little more positivity to the Centre after recent international events. The initiative, which was entirely tenant led, brought together tenants in the building to celebrate the multicultural diversity of individuals in The Foundry and to recognise the incredible work their organisations do across the world.

25th May - Ethical Property Company acquire property in Bethnal Green
Ethical Property have completed the purchase of a new flagship building in London. 244-254 Cambridge Heath Road (Bethnal Green) is the latest building to be acquired by the company. They are working with architects Waugh Thistleton, a leading specialist in sustainable building design, and are currently preparing a planning application to redevelop the site into approximately 50,000ft² of workspace.
The project is being funded by the proceeds from the recent sale of Development House, Ethical Property's 28,000ft² office building in Old Street in London.
244-254 Cambridge Heath Road, once completed, will be the largest Centre the Ethical Property Company has owned and managed, it’s almost twice as large as Development House and will be built using sustainable materials as well as being designed to have a significantly reduced carbon footprint, providing tenants lower operating costs.
Conrad Peberdy, Director of Development at Ethical Property said, “These are significant transactions for The Ethical Property Company which will enable us to upscale our activities in order to meet growing demand from potential tenants. This is vital at a time when property in the capital is increasingly out of reach of voluntary and community organizations due to rising rents and loss of office space. ”
9th May - Rounders team report
We are proud to announce that The Foundry now has a resident rounders team that are competing in a local league! Here is a report from their first game:
"Following a well-choreographed and glamourous photo shoot, the Foundry Allsorts made their way to Regents Park in high spirits and pristine t-shirts. On arrival, under the evening sun, they rehearsed their game-plan with a professionalism ordinarily reserved for pros. There were gigantic throws and Hollywood hits. Someone popped the Prosecco.
Despite this enthusiasm, what looked like a promising start turned into an early peak. Asthma UK’s branded hoodies and fearsome beards, where appropriate, instilled a pressure too great for even numerous cans of warm Stella to relieve. The Foundry Allsorts’ lightening passes and extravagant blows served to dizzy their own teammates as much as the opposition.
The Allsort’s strategy was not, however, without its merits. A deliberate and premature congratulatory cheer for Asthma UK after the second innings, intending psychological disorientation, indeed took their breath away, although their respiratory expertise meant the players were far from winded. Rocket hits and antagonistic calls left the Allsorts running into the forest, scrambling bewildered in the soil, but despite many proficient deliveries the execution failed on the final blow.
On the silent whistle the Foundry Allsorts celebrated a worthy defeat, sensing the start of a collaborative journey, raising their glasses to each enthusiastic slip-up that never brought the players down. Far from an embarrassing and predictable humiliation, they fostered a jovial community with only one direction – up (and to the pub)."
6th January - Civic Trust Award
The Foundry ended 2015 on high by winning another award for outstanding architecture, planning and design in the built environment. In late December The Civic Trust announced the 58 winning projects, including The Foundry. This is another great achievement for a building that aims is to provide affordable office space for social justice and human rights organisations. 5th December - Oliver Wainwright's Top Architecture 2015
What a year it has been for The Foundry! As well as receiving plaudits from many in the architecture industry the building was awarded as the Best Building in London by RIBA. Now The Foundry has featured in Oliver Wainwright's Guardian article "Top 10 architecture of 2015". In a short description of the building he describes it as a "beautiful and useful addition to London’s increasingly endangered species of affordable workspaces". Click here to see the whole list.
4th December - Invitation to tender for catering services at The Foundry
Are you a catering service looking for a new home? Ethical Property Company, who manage The Foundry, are looking to engage a catering company to supply the meeting and event catering service in the building. In its first year the meeting service generated catering turnover of c. £121K. It is anticipated that this figure will increase now that the centre’s offices are full and as the meeting room business further develops. This is estimated as being £175K in the current year. 13th November - Richard Wolfstrome Article in Architonic
This week The Foundry featured on architectural website Architonic, in an Article written by Richard Wolfstrome. Richard, who designed the wayfinder narrative and public artwork at the Foundry, discusses identity and the impact of wayfinding in modern architecture. You can read the full article here.
5th November - Fairplace Award
RBS Essex is the latest organisation to win the Fairplace award, the new ethical workplace standard accreditation from the sister charity of Ethical Propertry, the Ethical Property Foundation. Fairplace is a unique, comprehensive ethical workplace standard which recognises a company’s commitment to people and planet. If you would like to apply for the award more information can be found here.
The Ethical Property Foundation manages the fairplace award, which has been developed in partnership with a range of organisations. The Foundation is a registered charity, launched in 2004 with the vision that the UK’s 1.8m workplaces can and should be managed to benefit society and the environment. Profits from the fairplace Award go towards maintaining the property advice services run by the Ethical Property Foundation for charities, social enterprises and community groups.
15th September - The Foundry at London Open House 2015

2nd September 2015 - SolarAid Nominated for Social Enterprise Award
We are very proud to announce that our tenant Solar Aid, have been shortlisted for the Social Impact award at this years UK Social Enterprise awards! There were close to 300 applicants for the awards this year, so even to be nominated is real achievement! Well Done Solar Aid, best of luck for event, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed!

29th May 2015 - The Foundry feature in The Guardian
Since being named the RIBA ‘London Building of the Year last week, The Foundry has been benefiting from extra press exposure, appearing in numerous magazines and online articles.Today, in The Guardian's Art and Design section, another such article from Oliver Wainwright features quotes from Ethical Property Managing Director Susan Ralphs. 22nd May 2015 - St Pauls Learning Centre
The future looks bright for St Paul’s Learning and Family Centre in Bristol, with Ethical Property Company, who manage The Foundry, having recently taken over management of the centre from Bristol City Council.
Following a bidding process, Ethical Property were chosen to take on the centre, and they are committed to working closely with the local community going forward. The council will pay Ethical Property a one off payment in order to implement management and building changes, and then they will operate the centre without any other financial support from the council.
George Ferguson, Mayor of Bristol, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to secure the future of this important social centre thanks to the work of Bristol City Council officers working with the Neighbourhood Partnership and Ashley Councillors. Organisations like the Ethical Property Company can be more flexible and agile, and in a better position to service the needs of the local community. I have a lot of faith that Ethical Property will bring greater stability to the centre and that local people will be able to benefit for years to come.”
Conrad Peberdy, Director of Development at Ethical Property, said: "This is a really exciting project that aims to create an exciting and sustainable learning and education centre that will serve the community of St Paul's whilst becoming a valuable resource for the City of Bristol. Bristol is a front runner in terms of identifying the ways in which community buildings are used and safeguarded to ensure they benefit generations to come. This is a really exciting example of how Bristol is adopting new and innovative solutions to meeting community needs within tight financial constraints."
Ethical Property have set three objectives on taking over the centre. These are; to increase the number of community groups using the centre, to increase the numbers of people benefiting from education, learning and cultural events, and to make the centre self-sufficient to serve the community for years to come.
